Q&A with Iva and Her Mom: A Summer of Growth at Girls Inc. Indy

For Iva and her mom, Girls Inc. Indy Summer Camp was more than just a place to spend the summer—it was a space for connection, confidence, and growth. In this Q&A, we hear from both of them about their favorite memories, proudest moments, and what it means to be Strong, Smart, and Bold.

What does being a part of Girls Inc. Indy Summer Camp mean to you—and to Iva?

M️om: As an older mom with a young daughter, I didn’t have many friends with children her age. I wanted her to be surrounded by girls who could encourage her to be more active and outgoing. The mentors she had were incredibly supportive and showed genuine care for her growth. Each day, I saw her gain more independence, building confidence and emotional strength in a way that truly reassured me.

Iva: I liked Olivia and Ms. Emily. I got to play football and go to basketball games. It was first time I ever got to be president and I learned to make things to sale. I’m excited to go back!

Do you have a favorite memory, experience, or event you’d like to share from your time  at camp?

Mom: There have been so many proud moments, but the one that stands out the most was when I received the message that Iva had been named president of her group. That was the moment I realized that others saw what I had always known—how truly amazing she is. Seeing her shine and step into her own, independent of me, was incredibly rewarding.

What does being Strong, Smart, and Bold mean to you—and to Iva?

Mom: As a mother raising a daughter in this world, my greatest hope is that she never questions her strength, her brilliance, or her power. I want her to walk with confidence, knowing she is meant to take up space, to speak with conviction, to lead with courage. She is STRONG in ways that inspire, BOLD in ways that break barriers, and SMART in ways that shape her future. No matter who tries to silence her, no matter who tries to dim her light, she will rise—unapologetically, beautifully, fiercely.

Iva: I know I’m a strong girl and I’m really smart so when I grow up I’m going to be Stronger, Smarter, and Bolder too.

As a parent, what do you hope for Iva’s future, and how has Girls Inc. Indy helped support those hopes and goals?

Mom: ️Girls Inc. Indy has paved the way for so many young girls, and I feel truly honored that Iva has the opportunity to be a part of such an empowering organization. Her experience last summer was transformative—it gave her the confidence she needed as she stepped into first grade, and I could see her growing more independent and self-assured every day. I’m excited to watch her continue flourishing, both within Girls Inc. and beyond. She’s looking forward to another summer of learning and growth, and I’m just as eager to see her thrive in new ways.
