Dear Girls Inc. Champions and Friends:

As an integral stakeholder of Girls Inc. of Greater Indianapolis (Girls Inc.), we want to share some exciting news. Last week, Lilly Endowment Inc. announced that Girls Inc. is one of 13 youth-serving organizations to receive financial sustainability grants totaling $54.7 million.

In making these grants, Lilly Endowment selected organizations that are critical to community efforts to promote the welfare of children and youth. We are proud to share that we received a $2.5 million grant. Additionally, Girls Inc. was granted $750,000 in program funding to create innovative, impact-driven curricula for girls in Indianapolis and beyond. In total, this amounts to $3.25 million from Lilly Endowment to support our important work in the community.

Girls Inc. will place $2.25 million of the sustainability grant into a restricted endowment fund. The endowment is structured to operate in perpetuity, allowing our organization more flexibility and greater capacity to work strategically. The remainder of the grant will be used to fund critical strategic projects focusing on sustained fund development and technological operational efficiency. All projects will be completed by 2022.

As this grant does not fund day-to-day operating support, traditional fundraising to ensure continuation and quality of core agency services is as important as ever. This sustainability grant is recognition that our work is deeply necessary in the community and is shaping and changing the lives of girls in Indianapolis. We are helping girls reach their highest potential of health, education, and independence.

This year marks the 50th anniversary of our service to strong, smart, and bold girls in Indianapolis. As Girls Inc. continues working to reach more girls with impact in the community as aligned with our bold new strategic plan, we are truly encouraged by this investment in our future. This would not be possible without your confidence in Girls Inc., which you show through investment of your time, talent and treasure. Thank you for being an integral part of our organization. We are truly honored.

With warm regards,

Elyssa Campodonico-Barr, President & CEO
Melissa Cotterill, Board Chair
