This month we are so lucky to have Tameca Perkins, former Girls Inc. Indy girl and one of our 2019 Volunteers of the Year, share a few thoughts with us about her time both in our programs, as well as her thoughts on volunteering.

Ecstatic at the opportunity to give back, it is with great pride that I have the privilege to play a small part in educating young girls with the comprehensive approach Girls Inc. programs provide, inspiring them to be strong, smart, and bold! Every session has its own uniqueness, vibe, and excitement! Each week, not only do the ladies allow us to share with them, but they share with us and allow us the opportunity to learn something we may not know, even as adults.
Girls Inc. of Greater Indianapolis has a special place in my heart, as I am proud to be a Girls Inc. Indy alumna. What I remember most is that I had the opportunity to learn, share, and ask questions in a safe, no-judgment zone as a timid young girl, and this meant the world to me.
What better place to give back, than to the amazing organization that imparted priceless life lessons into my life, helping me to become the strong, smart, and bold woman I am today! I was always taught to never forget those that help you, so I keep this in my mind as I continue to passionately volunteer at Girls Inc. Indy. I also keep in my heart that as we “fuel their fire, they will win!”
