Girls Inc. of Greater Indianapolis’ annual Summer Camp was one for the books! The girls spent four weeks participating in activities themed around being Strong, Smart, Bold, and Inspired. We served nearly 100 girls from all over Indianapolis throughout camp. Each week brought exciting programming, field trips, and collaborators.

We kicked off camp in June with STRONG week. Programming focused on physical fitness, nutrition, and self-esteem. Our girls participated in activities led by Indy Eleven, Nine13sports, and Stargazer. We headed off site for an afternoon of roller skating and pedal boating on the canal.

The girls’ brain power was tested during SMART, our second week of camp. We dove right into coding programs presented by CoderDojo and GurlCode. Our younger girls participated in Snapology programming and made slime. STEM Connections made a visit and taught the girls about natural resources, water, and soil. Preparations for our economic literacy carnival began this week with programming focused on economic literacy and entrepreneurship.

We didn’t slow down during BOLD week. Programming focused on media literacy and healthy relationships. We had team building with Camptown, solved world problems with IndyPulse, and learned about social needs while helping the community at Gleaners. We topped off the week with a field trip to Cummins where we learned about engineering through an engine build and engaged with their employees.

We wrapped up camp during our INSPIRED week. We focus on expressing our artistic side with dance and crafts. We choreographed our very own dance routine, displayed our talents in the annual talent show, and created clay self portraits with the Indianapolis Art Center. We ended the week at the Indianapolis Zoo where we had a behind the scenes tour.

We are so grateful to all the girls, families, volunteers, staff, and our generous investors who helped make this year’s camp a huge success. Thank you!
