What makes you strong, smart, and bold?

Ever since I could remember, I have always been inquisitive –  I was the child who never ran out of new questions to ask. “Why” was, and likely is, my favorite word in the English language. This natural curiosity has led me to different career paths and has enabled a lifetime of learning.

Why are you passionate about supporting Girls Inc.?

My family immigrated to the United States from Ukraine when I was six years old. My parents did not speak English or know how they were going to find work to provide for their two young children and help support my grandparents and great grandparents. Our first few years in the United States were filled with significant financial and cultural challenges. Nevertheless, we persisted and overcame great adversity. My family is the embodiment of the American dream. As such, I’d like to be able to give back to my community and be a champion of strong, smart, and bold young women.

What are you most looking forward to as a board member of Girls Inc. Indy?

There is an old Chinese saying, “Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime.” I am excited to be a part of a team of like-minded, determined individuals that want to make a difference by providing an avenue of life-long lessons and opportunities for the participants of Girls Inc.

What makes you strong, smart, and bold?

Being strong, smart, and bold for me encompasses mind, body, and spirit. I’m strong mentally because of experiences and trials that I had to learn throughout my life, some positive others negative. Essentially they are metaphoric weights that cause me to believe in myself beyond any circumstance that may come my way. I’m smart in a tangible sense from many years of formal education; however, I’ll say I’m the most intelligent in areas of empathy, passion for service, and desire to live in my purpose. I tell many people that I want my legacy to be everything I cannot buy. I’m bold  because I believe wholeheartedly the need to speak up and stand up for truth, fairness, and kindness for all.

Why are you passionate about supporting Girls Inc.?

Supporting Girls Inc. allows me to show up to further the mission of Girls Inc. I have an extremely strong sense of girls’ tangible and intangible needs, so Girls Inc. offers me the opportunity to be a part of an organization that believes in the positive impact they can make.

As a scientist, I have learned to be innovative. I need to be strong, to overcome challenges, to be smart and know when to ask for help of colleagues, and to be bold and not give up even when the problem looks daunting.

Why are you passionate about supporting Girls Inc.?

I want to give back and inspire other girls to be strong, smart, and bold. I have been so fortunate to have had great women role models in my life that I hope to be one to all the girls at Girls Inc.
