Working as the public relations intern for Girls Inc. of Greater Indianapolis has been an incredibly fulfilling and rewarding experience. It has been an honor to be able to team up with such amazing women and to advocate for young girls this semester. This position has taught me many lessons and has given me the fundamental skills and confidence that I need in order to thrive in this industry.

The communications team here at Girls Inc. has valued my input on projects and events, allowed me to produce content for our website and social media, and helped me build my professional public relations skills as they apply to non-profit organizations. Because of Girls Inc. Indy, I now have a solid foundation and understanding of what our modern public relations environment looks like and how I will fit into it.

One of the biggest lessons I learned was how important our jobs are. The behind-the-scenes work that I was a part of functions as the backbone of the whole system and what we stand for. Inspiring all girls to be strong, smart, and bold is not just educating them on those three areas. It means being strong, smart, and bold yourself. This isn’t always easy, but being surrounded by intelligent, dedicated women rubs off on you. It is this mindset and attitude that I will take with me as I continue my college career and long after I graduate.

Thank you to the entire Girls Inc. Indy staff, board members, volunteers, partners, families, and girls that made my experience so enjoyable and memorable. I am so thankful to have been a part of the movement of supporting and empowering young girls as they grow and develop into the next generation of fearless female leaders!
