Last Thursday we celebrated yet another successful Touchstone Awards Luncheon! It was an afternoon filled with good company, great food, and inspiring conversation about the Girls Inc. mission.

The event kicked off with our exhibit hall filled with project displays that our Girls Inc. summer camp girls could discuss with attendees. Guests were able to come view the exhibits and see firsthand the skills, knowledge, and experience our programs have provided to the girls. Our summer camp participants were super excited to be able to talk about all of the fun they were having, and our guests had the opportunity to take pictures and show the world how they are strong, smart, and bold.

One of our Young Women in Leadership girls and current summer camp employee, Cyncere, gave a powerful speech about how Girls Inc. has helped her grow into the strong, confident young woman she is today. She discussed achieving her dream of visiting New York City as a YWIL girl this past spring and how the activities and people at Girls Inc. helped her come out of her shell and become outgoing and bold. She thanked Girls Inc. for raising her self-esteem and for helping her prepare for a new chapter of her life as she prepares for college and graduates high school in two years. Her speech was met with a standing ovation from the crowd, signifying how truly impactful Girls Inc. programs can be to girls in our community.

Our honorees, Melody Birmingham-Byrd (pictured below on the left), Deborah Hearn Smith, Jacqueline Simmons, and Patricia Wachtel demonstrated their poise and talent in their acceptance speeches, as they told the audience about the challenges they faced to get where they are today. They also paid tribute to some of the women in their lives who inspired them to achieve their goals.

We want to take the time to say thank you yet again to everyone who attended the event, as well as everyone who donated or sponsored the event. Your support will help us provide programming to more girls in the Indianapolis community and impact more young lives. Donors, volunteers, sponsors, parents, and program partners just like you are who make our dynamic programs possible.

If you didn’t attend Touchstone, but would like to help us meet our Touchstone goal of providing 10 new programs for middle school and high school age girls this coming school year, you can do so here!

We are grateful for your commitment to empowering girls in our community.
