What will be your role at Girls Inc. of Greater Indianapolis?

I will be the Volunteer Manager. In this role, I will be responsible for developing and maintaining relationships with various corporations and community groups. This will involve recruiting and engaging volunteers to support the Girls Inc. mission of “inspiring all girls to be strong, smart and bold,” while meeting the needs of young girls in our community.

What about the Girls Inc. mission appeals to you?

I love the straightforwardness and simplicity of the mission—”inspiring all girls to be strong, smart and bold.” In today’s society, it is of dire importance that our girls and women realize they are strong, smart and bold—by just being who they are naturally destined to be. Girls in our society today have many pressures of looking and being like their next door neighbor, someone in their classroom, or even someone on social media. That is a lot of pressure for our young girls. It’s important for our girls to have role models—whether family and/or community volunteers—to instill in them and remind them they are strong, smart and bold just being themselves!

How are you strong, smart, and bold?

I am grateful for my mother, my older sister, and various friends that have shown me along the way how to be strong, smart and bold. At a young age, I learned the importance of having values and goals, and not focusing on comparing myself to others—no matter how easy the comparison may be. While I may not have been in a community organization like Girls Inc. growing up, I was still fortunate to have positive influences in my life. Those values and lessons instilled and learned during my life have allowed me to be the strong, smart and bold woman, wife, mother, and friend I am today.
