The holiday season is upon us and as always, it’s a season for giving, for reflecting on the past year, for celebrating all the blessings we have, and for preparing for the year ahead. I don’t know about you, but 2016 was a year of many challenges, successes, and pivotal decisions in my life. And I know it was for many of the girls we serve.
Every day, girls are faced with countless decisions that impact their lives. What do I want to be when I grow up? Where should I go to college? Can I go to college? Should I take a risk and speak out in class? How am I going to react to someone putting me down or bullying me? Am I beautiful? Who says? Can I really do this? What if people make fun of me? Girls can’t do that. Can they?
Girls Inc. helps girls answer these questions by encouraging them to believe in themselves, and to know they can do whatever they put their minds to. But we can’t do it alone.
It takes hundreds of volunteers who lead our programs, nearly 100 community partners working with us, countless advocates raising awareness about the issues facing girls today, and maybe most critically, hundreds of donors who support this vital work.
As we count our blessings and prepare for the year ahead, I’m grateful to be a part of changing the lives of girls in my community. I want all girls to know they are valued, they are special, they have gifts and talents to share, and that their voice makes a difference. I want girls to have the resources and confidence they need to succeed. And I know I have an important role to play in providing those resources.
Today, and in the coming year ahead, I hope you will consider giving girls the power they need to succeed by investing in girls. Your voice, your time, your support, and your donations empower girls when you give to Girls Inc. Thank you for all you do to inspire girls! I hope your holidays are filled with laughter, joy, and the knowledge that you are changing lives. Together, we can give girls the power to succeed.
