Ashley LeonardDedicated . . . passionate . . . AMAZING . . . are just a few words to describe Ashley. Ashley is currently co-facilitating her sixth program, and moving toward her seventh with our upcoming Winter cycle! She has a heart and a passion for girls and the Girls Inc. mission. Her dedication to inspiring them shows up every time she co-leads a class. We are so excited to have Ashley as this month’s “Featured Volunteer”. Meet Ashley:

How did you learn about Girls Inc.?
Ashley: I heard about Girls Inc. when I was volunteering with United Way.

Why did you choose to volunteer with Girls Inc.?
Ashley: I remember how important it was for me to have a strong, smart, and bold woman in my life when I was a girl. If I can be that for just one girl, I am making a difference. We all need someone to look up to.

What have you enjoyed most about volunteering with Girls Inc.?
Ashley: I have enjoyed seeing the girls learn things about themselves they never realized before. We ask them questions to make them think in a whole other way.

Does any facilitation memory or any one of the girls stand out to you? Explain.
Ashley: We had a very shy girl in our group. She completed the activities but never wanted to take her turn to share. The other girls in the class were so supportive, even though they didn’t know her well. She is now willing to open up and share her experiences and feelings.

Why do you think Girls Inc. programs are beneficial to girls?
Ashley: It gives girls a chance to see how special being a girl can be. They realize they have many ideas and traits in common. They can stand up for each other rather than putting each other down.

Have you noticed any changes in your own life since volunteering with Girls Inc.?
Ashley: The genuine positivity the girls exhibit is infectious. They only see the best in people. It makes you want to be the same way

What kind of things have you learned after facilitating a Girls Inc. program?
Ashley: Being strong, smart, and bold isn’t about how you compare to others; it’s about being the best ‘you’ you can be. The lessons we teach are applicable no matter how young or old you are.

Tell a tip for volunteer program facilitators about volunteering or working as a team.
Ashley: Relax and have fun with it. It isn’t just about what you are teaching them, it’s also about them knowing they have someone who cares.

Tell a tip for Girls Inc. Girls.
Ashley: We are all here to have fun. The more you participate, the more fun you will have.

We want to express our gratitude and appreciation to Ashely for her support, passion, and dedication to the girls of Girls Inc.! Want to join other volunteers like Ashley . . . submit a volunteer application today!
