I am at the halfway point of my internship, but it feels like the time has just flown by! It feels like just yesterday when I got the call from Lee Ann letting me know that I had secured the public relations internship position.

I have been learning so much and having a lot of fun here at Girls Inc. One of my favorite things that I have done so far is helping with the Girlfriends for Girls Inc. volunteer recruitment campaign. I get to make the social media posts for the campaign and interact with our volunteers over Twitter. I quickly learned the importance and the impact social media has. Plus, it’s a lot of fun to see all of the great things our volunteers have to say!

Another one of my favorite moments was being able to help with the Annual Meeting. Being able to see all of the components of our organization from volunteers, to staff and even Girls Inc. girls come together was such an amazing experience. Also, hearing the stories from Jamie Marshall, Hana Baker and Makala left me feeling inspired and recharged to go back to spreading the Girls Inc. strong, smart, and bold message.

This internship has been a college senior’s dream! I’m not making coffee. I’m not doing meaningless tasks. I am actually involved! From writing stories for our monthly e-newsletter to generating blog posts, I feel like I am making a difference.

Also, I could not ask for a better group of ladies to work with. They have been so welcoming and helpful Plus, everyone here is so dedicated to this organization. It is truly inspiring to work with people who give 100 percent to their jobs!

I’m even going to be assisting in the social media efforts during our Giving Tuesday fundraising campaign. This is going to be huge since it will be the first time that we are actively participating in the day. It’ll be a challenge, but I am really excited for it! Just knowing that I will have a direct impact in raising funds to inspire the girls of Greater Indianapolis makes me beyond happy.

Since I’m just months from graduation, I’ve been bombarded with the dreaded question: “What will you be doing after graduating?” And, honestly I have no idea, but I do know that I want to stay involved with Girls Inc. This has been some of the most fulfilling work that I have ever done. I plan on taking volunteer training before I leave, and signing up to lead a program!
