“Girls Inc. to me is a place where girls go to build upon themselves and be something better than they ever thought they could be,” Girls Inc. participant Zainabu, 13, told an audience of hundreds gathered at the JW Marriott.

The 2014 “Imagination in Action” Touchstone Awards luncheon was held on July 10, and was our most successful yet. More than 400 guests attended to honor the four inspiring Indianapolis leaders being recognized as Touchstone honorees–Dr. Lisa Harris, Harriet Ivey, Debby Knox, and Beverly Mukes-Gaither.

With the help of generous challenge matches from The Glick Fund, Kroger, and the National Bank of Indianapolis, gold-level sponsorship by Citizens Energy Group and the Lilly Endowment, and sponsorship by dozens more local organizations and individuals, together we raised more than $102,000 to fund empowering Girls Inc. programs for Greater Indianapolis girls. Thank you to all whose support made this achievement possible!

Guests met more than 75 Girls Inc. summer camp participants at the event, as the girls first hosted interactive exhibits sharing what they learned at camp, then joined guests at their tables for the luncheon and program. Each Touchstone honoree took a few minutes to address the girls specifically as she accepted her award. Read highlights from the advice shared by each honoree here, and watch a short video featuring our inspiring interviews with these leaders.

The awards were hosted by Fox 59 news anchor Kristin Kane and chaired by Vertellus Vice President Linda Hicks. Girls Inc. participant Zainabu summed up what we hope each girl takes away from her Girls Inc. experience in her remarks.

“I know I can be strong and do anything I set my mind to,” she said. “I know I can be smart and make the right choices. I know I can be bold and conquer my fears.”

Mark your calendars for next year’s Touchstone Awards, July 9, 2015!
