The partnership between Girls Inc. and Julie Bohannon, an adjunct faculty member at the Indiana University School of Nursing, began in the summer of 2009. At the time, Bohannon sought an organization where her nursing students would have an opportunity to make a difference and give back to their community. As a result, 39 nursing students co-facilitated 21 programs and served over 300 girls between fall 2009 and 2010.

This unique partnership not only benefits girls participating in Girls Inc. programs, but also the nursing students. The students develop skills in interpersonal communication, project and time management, “bedside manner,” and group presentations. Bohannon also facilitated a Girls Inc. program and learned through the process; “I’ve been teaching for over 20 years, and going through the Girls Inc. program gave me a fresh perspective.”

Thank you IU School of Nursing for playing an important role in helping Girls Inc. make a difference in the lives of others!
