Yesterday we hosted the first of what we hope will become a Girls Inc. tradition – our Annual Meeting. Many organizations hold annual meetings to update shareholders, trustees, and constituents on progress. For us, the purpose was to bring together our partners, volunteers, and supporters to celebrate our collaborative success.

Four years ago, there was no need for this type of event. When we closed our two clubs, we completely reset our operations. Today, we have more than 75 community partners, 300+ trained program volunteers, and more individual supporters than ever before. This is the time to celebrate and to thank those that have made it possible for us to reach more than 4,000 program enrollments.

Despite a rainy fall day and construction on 10th Street, we had a wonderful turnout at the John H. Boner Center. Guests heard from Peter Lacy, our board chair; Dr. Charlie Schlegel, principal of the Challenge Foundation Academy; LaTonya Keaton, a program volunteer and mother to Jade and Divanna, who also spoke. Pat Wachtel, Girls Inc. president & CEO, shared our vision for the next three years, a growth plan to reach all four counties in our service area, an increased focus on advocacy, and new technology available to enhance our partner relationships.

We hope our Annual Meeting will continue in the future and grow to be a unique time for our community to celebrate the opportunities we are building for Indianapolis girls—together.
