Last month we kicked off our Young Women in Leadership (YWIL) program for the 2018-2019 school year! Cassie and Katie, two of the participants, answered a few questions on what they hope to accomplish this year and what they are most excited for:

Cassie:

What grade are you in and where do you go to school?

Hi, my name is Cassie and I’m a ninth grader who goes to Providence Cristo Rey High School.

Have you participated in YWIL before? If so, for how long? Why do you want to participate in this program?

This is my first time participating in the YWIL program. I’m excited to participate because of all the fun trips and things we get to do this year!

What are you most excited for during this year of YWIL?

I’m the most excited for all of the college trips we’re taking because this will be my first time going to a historical black college/university, and that’s going to be a once-in-a-lifetime experience!

What do you hope to accomplish by the end of this year through the YWIL program?

My main goal I hope to accomplish this year in the YWIL program is to grow as a leader, and learn to be more open with new people.

What are your goals for the future?

My goals for the future are to graduate college and high school so I can major in graphic design; and later become the head of a marketing department for a company.

Katie:

What grade are you in and where do you go to school?

I am a senior at North Central high school.

Have you participated in YWIL before? If so, for how long? Why do you want to participate in this program?

I have not participated in YWIL before.

What are you most excited for during this year of YWIL?

I want to participate in this program because I want to better myself. I am looking to improve my time management and leadership skills, and I believe YWIL will help me do that.

What are you most excited for during this year of YWIL?

I am most excited about the service component of YWIL! I have always felt the need to get back to my community, and now I have the chance to do that with a group of talented young women.

What do you hope to accomplish by the end of this year through the YWIL program?

By the end of this year, I am hoping to improve my leadership and time management skills, as well as create a support system for myself of trusted adults and girls my age that I can go to whenever I need help.

What are your goals for the future?

After high school, I want to go to college and get my undergraduate degree in animal behavior or animal-focused biology. I then want to attend grad school to get my masters, hopefully centered around either zoology or conservation. My dream job is working with animals through research, rescue, rehabilitation, and conservation.
