Marissa Smith

Q: What will be your role at Girls Inc. of Greater Indianapolis?

“I will be the public relations intern for the spring semester, so I will be working on the Girls Inc. blog, newsletter and social media accounts. I will also get to help with some of the event coordination for the organization.”

Q: What about the Girls Inc. mission appeals to you?

“It appeals to me because I think all girls deserve to know how amazing they are. Smart, strong girls grow up to be empowered women. I think that the more empowered women we have in the world, the better it will be.”

Q: How are you strong, smart, and bold?

“I am strong, smart, and bold by being confident in my abilities and my future. I have been fortunate enough to take advantage of several different opportunities during my college career that have helped me grow and realize what amazing potential I have as a young professional. I used to be scared of graduating from college, because school is something I have always been good at. Now, I am excited to look towards the future and what post-graduation life has in store for me.”

Q: What will be your role at Girls Inc. of Greater Indianapolis?

“My role at Girls Inc. of Greater Indianapolis will be working as the Development Intern. Through this position I will help to conduct donor research, write and coordinate donor communication and acknowledgments, and work with special event coordination and planning.”

Q: What about the Girls Inc. mission appeals to you?

“In my eyes there is nothing more valuable than the potential that lies within our girls. They offer so much insight, innovation, compassion, and ambition that our world desperately needs. I was instantly drawn to Girls Inc. when I saw their mission to inspire all girls to be strong, smart, and bold. Through the work this organization is doing it’s obvious that girls are being given the opportunity to explore what it means for them to be their most authentic and inspired selves. There is so much power in that, and igniting it early in a girl’s life is even better!”

Q: How are you strong, smart, and bold?

“I am learning to be strong, smart, and bold every day. I’m a firm believer that challenging yourself is the key to growth. Throughout my life, especially in college, I’ve been lucky enough to have opportunities to try new and difficult things, like taking on leadership roles and pushing myself in my studies. My mother has been a huge influence on me as well. She’s shown me what it truly means to be strong, smart, and bold by understanding the value of putting others before yourself, always having the drive to bounce back after trying times, and confidently standing up for what you believe in.”
