As our sole major fundraising event each year, the preparation for the next Touchstone Awards begins as soon as the current event ends. Though staff work year-round on the event, many projects and details come down to the summer months.

This summer we were thrilled to once again have an AmeriCorps VISTA Events Specialist to manage many of the details of the day. Carrie, our VISTA, has organized, brainstormed, printed, pasted, and pieced together information and visuals to make our 2011 “In Her Own Words” Touchstone Awards special for every guest and girl present.

One of her responsibilities was coordinating the creation of the exhibits that will be on display during the Touchstone Awards. She said about the project, “It’s so exciting to see what the girls have been doing during the last month. I don’t get the chance often, as my job means that I’m mostly in the office. It’s so much fun to look at pictures of the girls during each of the programs and to see how excited and engaged they are. I can’t wait for you to see them too!”

We have also been fortunate to have the helping hands of volunteers from groups around the city including Best Buy, Kohls, and the American Association of Blacks in Energy (AABE). Thank you to these volunteers and the individuals who helped prep materials and complete the time-consuming, tedious work that is so important to our event’s success. And thank you to Carrie for her hard work and critical eye throughout the Touchstone Awards planning process!

Hope to see you tomorrow!
