Note: Gabie’s Giving Corner is a monthly series focused on financial support for Girls Inc.
I’m a fundraiser. My husband always jokes that my job is “begging people for money.” That statement is usually followed by a glare of disagreement from me. “I don’t beg,” I say, “I inspire.”
For many, fundraising is that dirty job no one wants. For me, it’s not about asking for money – it’s about connecting people to mission, and motivating them to make an impact with their investment.
I’ve been fundraising for many years, and I’ve never been more energized than I am now. When you see the impact our programs have, when you hear stories from volunteers working with the girls, and when you have confidence that your gift is being used as effectively as possible – you want to give!
This month our dedicated board of directors are calling each of our donors to thank them for their support. They aren’t able to connect with everyone, but when they do get a donor on the phone and talk to them about what we’ve accomplished the result is remarkable.

(Shaun Clifford, governance chair for the Girls Inc. board of directors, thanks donors.)
Most donors are surprised to hear directly from a member of the Board of Directors. “I don’t give much,” many say. Regardless of the amount, every gift has a huge impact on our organization. In fact, over the past two years Girls inc. has lowered the cost per hour of service down to just $40. This means that every dollar given to Girls Inc. is driven as closely to the girls we serve as possible. Every dollar makes a difference! I jump up and down for every dollar! It’s celebrated.
The generosity of our donors and funders motivates our staff, board, and volunteers. Each gift and each grant is a signal of trust, confidence, and belief in our mission, and we are grateful. Thank you!
