Best Buy and Moroccan volunteer groups enhance Girls Inc. summer camp
Volunteer groups shared their time and expertise with Girls Inc.’s Strong, Smart, Bold, and Inspired summer camp participants. Girls learned about retail and about life in another country.
Best Buy’s Women’s Leadership Forum
On June 30, volunteers from Best Buy’s Women’s Leadership Forum (WOLF) hosted a Lunch Bunch program for the Girls Inc. summer campers. Ten members of WOLF, whose work ranged from customer service and sales to operations and store management, discussed various careers in the retail industry with campers. Thank you to Stacy Raes, operations manager for Best Buy, for coordinating this great event for our girls!
Moroccan Delegation of Women
Girls Inc. campers also met with a delegation of women from Morocco, who were visiting Indianapolis with the International Visitor Leadership Program. Thanks to Girls Inc. volunteer program facilitator, Maryvonne Kerzabi, and the International Center of Indianapolis, girl participants learned about what life is like for a girl in Morocco.
The Moroccan women, in turn, learned about the programs Girls Inc. offers to young women. They were particularly interested in Girls Inc.’s ability to offer Preventing Adolescent Pregnancy (PAP) programs in schools, as this would be deemed taboo in their country. The women were also surprised to learn about the high cost of a college education, as it comes at little or no cost to students in Morocco.
