Girls Inc. of Greater Indianapolis is honored to be a United Way of Central Indiana agency. UWCI is committed to sustaining human services for those in need, while reducing such needs for future generations. United Way of Central Indiana provides a significant amount of financial support to Girls Inc. each year. This funding helps us continue to deliver programs that equip girls with the skills they need to develop into healthy, educated, and independent young women.
In addition to our annual grant, UWCI recently awarded us a grant to cover an unexpected maintenance issue at our facility. As the temperature dropped in late November, we quickly discovered we had no heat in one wing of the building. Faced with a costly bill to replace two of our HVAC units, we applied to the UWCI Facilities Maintenance Fund and received an emergency grant to cover 75% of the repair costs.
Beyond its important financial support for local nonprofits, UWCI leads programs and initiatives that strengthen our community. Its Volunteer Center is instrumental in mobilizing volunteers to meet pressing needs in the community. We are pleased to have volunteers from the HoosierCorps program, a federal and state funded program coordinated by UWCI. Hoosier Corps helps working families who have lost their jobs and fallen behind on their mortgages keep their homes. In exchange for volunteering with a local organization, they receive financial assistance with their mortgage. As an organization that relies on volunteers to achieve our mission, HoosierCorps is a perfect fit for us and we are so pleased that UWCI selected us as a host site.
We are grateful to United Way of Central Indiana for its leadership in our community and efforts to help organizations like ours create a brighter future for our youth.
