Girls in greater Indianapolis can feel unsafe in their community, relationships, or at home. In 2009, 7.7% of Indiana's 6th-12th-grade girls felt unsafe when they were out alone during the day, according to the report Alcohol, Tobacco, and Other Drug Use by Indiana Children and Adolescents.
The Girls Inc. Project BOLD® program Living Safe and Strong addresses girls' concern for their personal safety. The program provides basic self-defense techniques while encouraging girls to identify resources and people that can help keep them safe and with whom they can discuss potentially dangerous situations.
