Girls Inc. Body Appreciation Day

On June 7, Girls Inc. of Greater Indianapolis is sponsoring Body Appreciation Day, a full day of interactive activities to promote positive body image, celebrate the body as a valuable resource, and champion inner beauty.

By adolescence, up to 90% of girls want to reduce the size of their bodies. Girls of all shapes and sizes fall victim to media messages and gender stereotypes continuously promoting and reinforcing an unattainable standard of beauty that is neither healthy nor inclusive. When outward appearance is emphasized, the body is rarely understood as the wonderful resource it is. Instead, Girls Inc. emphasizes true beauty, the ageless kind that comes from within.

Body Appreciation Day will begin and end with free group exercise classes, and during lunchtime, Girls Inc. staff and volunteers will be stationed at various downtown locations to distribute resources, start conversations, and engage community members with fun and inspiring activities.

Mark your calendars for June 7 and watch for more details about this exciting event!
