On November 6, Girls Inc. will host “Body Image and Your Girl,” a Spirit & Place Festival program in collaboration with Girl Scouts of Central Indiana and Women’s Fund of Central Indiana at the Madame Walker Theatre. Free to the public, this parent/girl program will explore today’s troubling truth about self-esteem, health, and body image in girls.
According to a 2006 Girls Incorporated national survey of girls in grades 3-12, 55% of girls worry about how they look, and 52% of girls worry about their weight. “Body Image and Your Girl” will open the dialogue about the challenges girls are facing and discover what families, educators, and community leaders can do to reverse these trends.
Attend the event with your daughter, niece, granddaughter, or the girl in your life, and participate in hands-on activities and a panel discussion led by local girl and health experts: Dr. Virginia Caine, Sue Donohoe, Deborah Hearn Smith, and Patricia Wachtel - moderated by Jennifer Pope Baker.
