Meet Our Girl Speakers

Kaylyn HicksMeet Kaylyn!

If you could grant one wish for all girls, what would it be?
“If I could grant one wish for all girls, I would really want all of us to see our inner beauty. I think every girl has potential, but won’t ever know it unless she understands her beauty, importance, and strengths. Inner beauty is a quality that we all have. The only thing we want is for every girl to be the best she can possibly be.”

Challenges Girls Face Today
“At my school a lot of girls have little self-respect. I don’t believe they do it purposely, but it does show through the clothes they wear. If they had more self-appreciation, they would understand that the way a person dresses says a lot about who they are as a person. When a girl dresses in a more revealing manner I feel this shows how hard she tries to gain attention. As we all know that is never the way to be noticed. Instead they should show their inner beauty by attracting people, not by what they wear, but how they treat people and respect themselves. Finding self-value supports one’s ability to respect herself.”

Favorite Girls Inc. Memory
“My favorite memory from Girls Inc. is the Lunch Bunch with females from various corporations and companies. They inspired me to dream big. Hearing about their careers showed me how capable I am to become someone just like them. Now I want to be a Computer Engineer in software development. I believe I am capable of going into this field because they told me if I try my best that anything was possible.”

What are two things you hope to accomplish sometime in your life?
“In my life I would like to own a jewelry business. I create earrings, necklaces, bracelets, and other pieces to sell at rummage sales and also to family. I also want to develop my own video game; I want this game to be directed specifically for girls since most video games are for guys. I have big goals and dreams. With the confidence I have in myself, I know I am able to achieve them.”

If you could grant one wish for all girls, what would it be?
“If I could grant one wish for all girls, I wish that all girls could see themselves as beautiful and smart young ladies that could do anything they wanted to do in life if they put their minds to it. Anything is possible with hard work and determination. I wish that girls could work better together and not get caught up with petty drama.”

Challenges Girls Face Today
“I think that girls at my school struggle the most with their body image and what others think of them. I see girls at my school physically and mentally hurting themselves over what someone may have said about them.”

Favorite Girls Inc. Memory
“My favorite memory from Girls Inc. was attending the Touchstone Awards. I met women who are making a difference in the world. These women really inspired me to work harder in life to achieve my goals.”

What are two things you hope to accomplish sometime in your life?
“One of the most important things that I hope to accomplish in life is, after graduating high school, attending a great college or university. I also plan to continue running Cross Country and Track. I hope to one day become a veterinarian and a professional runner.”

If you could grant one wish for all girls, what would it be?
“If I could grant one wish for all girls, I would wish for them to have true equality. It may be 2012, but there are still times that women are not treated as equals. I wish every girl could make the same amount of money as a man and hold the same leadership roles in the workplace. I wish girls never had to hear degrading jokes and were empowered to reach their dreams.”

Challenges Girls Face Today
“I think the girls at my school struggle most with body image and getting along with other girls. We have a lot of “girl fights” because they do not know how to communicate to one another. Body image is also a big issue which is shown by how girls talk about themselves and how many do not eat at lunch or start a new diet every week. They do not see the inner beauty in themselves or those around them.”

Favorite Girls Inc. Memory
“A favorite memory of mine from when I was at Girls Inc. was when I went golfing with the summer program. We all weren’t the best at the driving range, but when we went to putt, I felt like a champ. We played a game to see who could get the most balls in the hole. I was the winner and remember getting a free vanilla coke. I smiled the entire ride home since I finally felt good at a sport which I had not tried before. I am not very athletic, but that event sparked my love for golf.”

What are two things you hope to accomplish sometime in your life?
“I hope to accomplish numerous things in my life, but two things stand out to me. I wish to finish a master’s degree at a respected university in the field of my dreams. Currently, I am hoping that field is interior design and that I can be an eco-friendly interior designer. My second thing I want to accomplish is to become a mother. I’ve been told that there is no joy in the world that can compare to being a parent and I would like that opportunity.”

Jade WilliamsMeet Jade!

If you could grant one wish for all girls, what would it be?
“If I could grant one wish for all girls, it would be that every girl is comfortable: I wish they could be comfortable with who they are, how they look, and where they come from. So that they never feel uncomfortable or dislike the skin they’re in.”

Challenges Girls Face Today
“I feel that girls at my school today struggle with trying to fit in with everyone around them, so much that they begin to lose sight of their values and morals as young women. Many girls want respect but don’t realize that the reason they don’t receive it is because they don’t respect themselves.”

Favorite Girls Inc. Memory
“One of my favorite out of many memories at Girls Inc. would have to be watching all the girls perform at the talent show this past summer. A lot of the girls who were shy and quiet really came out of their shell, and it was even better to watch when their parents were there to witness it also.”

What are two things you hope to accomplish sometime in your life?
“Two things I would hope to accomplish in life would include getting accepted into Purdue University, getting a degree in Nursing, and later specializing in Neonatal Nursing. Also, I would love to travel to other countries on mission trips and help build homes or feed the hungry, or whatever needs to be done. I love to travel and help people, so why not put them together.”

Kennedy PhillipsMeet Kennedy!

If you could grant one wish for all girls, what would it be?
“If I could grant one wish for all girls it would be that they would not be self-conscious about themselves.”

Challenges Girls Face Today
“Girls at my school struggle with things that are not of substantial value, such as outer appearances.”

Favorite Girls Inc. Memory
“One of my favorite memories from being at Girls Inc. was when we did the program “She Votes” because I like to learn about politics.”

What are two things you hope to accomplish sometime in your life?
“Two things I hope to accomplish in my life are to graduate from college then graduate from law school. Also I would like to travel around the world.”
